See: shains Invisible

1st October, 1960 was the year our dear country (Nigeria) officially gained independence from the British colonial masters who for many years kept us under their rule, authority and leadership. Thanks to the then leaders, patriots, freedom fighters who got us the independence. Times of slavery and utter dominion were gone, times of been servants of the white man were gone; oh many thanks to our patriots indeed. Paradoxically, we only got independence from the white man, signifying an official note of victory, but never did we get independence from ourselves. The same 1st October, 1960 was the day we became slaves to another set of people. Black men taking their fellow country men into slavery. Perhaps, that Independence was just a transfer of slave ownership; a pending freedom. What an Independence I say!

Men of power, influence, and probably intellect took over the responsibility of holding captive their fellow country-men, sad, very sad. We got out of slavery, but slavery never for ones left us. The same crop of mediocres (average men) without true visions, right policies and sincere philosophies have led us through these years; causing us to roam in circles without substancial fulfilment. Today, we are Forty and Nine years old 49, and issues of stagnation, backwardness and corruption we dealt with decades ago are still the same issues prevailent in our society. This gave rise to a deep thought in my heart,it birthed a burden for teriffic transformation and an obsessive passion for change. The dogged pursuit of rennaisance in our Nation coupled with deep understanding into the spiritual brought me to the conclusions that while we got freedom from physical chains, we are still with chains invisible, entangled in great distress and led all the way by wolves in sheep's clothing.

The solution however looms in distinct appearance waiting for us to accept and take responsive actions towards the change we desire. Our first line of action as change seekers is our ability to recognize, that we are still bound with invisible chains limited by invisible hands and led by the same crop of selfish individuals whose strategic act of deception have made us called them 'Heroes Past'.

Our second line of action meanwhile is the passionate desire to take the responsibility of change in our hands. Let your resolute decision be Breaking off the web of mediocrity, choosing to be a committed Nigerian, making your own vote count, not assisting these wicked men and women establish their counsel by imposing rulers on us in the name of God-fatherism. We must learn to appeal the deities of Change with the tireless efforts of commitment to excellence, faithful service to our country and the determination never to quit until Substantial change becomes the hallmark of our national brand.

Finally and most importantly, we must learn to submit ourselves to the leadership of the indefatiguable divine Autocrat and most superior being, God. We must learn to lay down our ideosyncracies,pre-concieved philosophies that have won us nothing but failure in the past; and we must take up the wisdom of the most high. This is the gate to the glory of our great Nation, Nigeria. We'll begin to experience positive change, when our leaders begin to lean on God and exercise absolute submission to the tutorship of His Holy Spirit.
Most importantly, we must anticipate and therefore prepare for the change we expect.Today Nigeria is forty Nine, and tomorrow we shall live in true comfort and rest, enjoying the impact of Truly committed citizens you and I have decided to be. Long live Nigeria, and now I can say, Happy independence.

My Pursuit of Change!

Why do things remain the way they are? Why are things the way they’ve always been? These questions have been on my mind for about a week now. Maybe I wouldn’t have been bothered if the time weren’t ripe for it. If your life has been experiencing a portion of stagnation for some time now; moving in round circles without progress like that of our Nation, then this subject affects you like no other. You might be lacking something, the drive for change.
The Drive for change is the deficient factor in several backward economies of the world as well as organizations, families and individuals. An impetus for positive dynamism is a vital catalyst for development and renaissance. Unfortunately it is lacking and that’s why we are lagging. Well, I think you will have to agree with me that the process of Change (positive change at that) starts from the desire, then the drive and finally the action that ensures it.
The most prominent character of mediocre people is the lack of enthusiasm and Zeal towards dynamic living and positive change. The foundational problem of many youths and leaders in our nation today is the lack of a potential drive for the change we desire. We’ve long hoped, we’ve waited for decades; but it’s obvious that waiting isn’t the solution to our travails. The answer is taking wise proactive means of deploying strategies that are capable if giving birth to a New Nigeria.
Exquisite delivery of strategic efforts is imperative to economical, technological and political renaissance. My heartfelt burden is to see every Nigerian think in this Direction
My Pursuit of Change began many years ago, but gained remarkable attention in the year 2005. The year 2005 was the year I chose to launch out under God by means of a vision channeled towards ‘Securing Africa’; a vision committed to securing the future of the African youth. I was driven by hope, motivated by faith, determined to chart a course towards National development, youth Security and technological Advancement. It’s barely four years now, the story is slightly different from what it used to be, it’s however obvious that the future holds so much more for the great people of Africa.
In my voyage this couple of years, I’ve come across notable Nigerians, true Africans who are vigorously working, purposefully building and aggressively toiling for positive Change in Africa. Renaissance - men and women whose desire is to see a new Nigeria. Exactly four years ago, I wrote an article; it was Nigeria’s 45th birthday. I titled it: ‘the beautiful Nigerians are not yet born’. I did this because I was burdened about the situation in my country and concerned about the decaying trend of things.
As I said earlier, the story is a different one today. I give thanks to God for giving our Nation young men and women, radical change agents whose decisions have brought us succor in certain areas. I’m not giving to praising individuals, but I feel the need to mention Notable men and women, who through faith and diligence are pursuing change. Icons of Change like Fela Durotoye, Niyi Adesanya, Deolu Akinyemi, Gbenga and Temilade Sesan, Ohimai Godwin, Sam Adeyemi, Poju Oyemade…
The list is not endless and that’s why more people must arise to take up the course of change. It’s not a struggle; it is a strategic process, a work that must be given close attention. We must work so the Synergy of our little efforts can generate a force that will catapult us into greatness. Our individual fulfillment is in the greatness we have succeeded in bringing our Nation into.
I am somewhat confident, that with the cooperation of you and I, addressing vital sectors of National livelihood, change is in the air.

Light Up The Nation

Have you heard of this vision, Light up Nigeria. Men,i got challenged when I came across this Array of young men and women who are making great impact, people who won't take a no for an answer; sincere but radical change agents. See more At http://www.lightupnigeria.org

Letter 2 New Nigerians

Dear Nigerian,

The future of Nigeria, the pleasant tomorrow God has for her is not in the hands of every youth. It lies in the hands of those who have made the decision to pay the price for change. If the top government functionaries, national Law makers and stakeholders in sectors that solely affect our economy and government keep quiet and roam in the puzzle, we must not give up on our own pursuit of change.
There is one thing I'm sure of; in this I'm well persuaded. I have sound faith (not hope) in God that the situation of things in our dear nation will not remain pathetic. We all must stop hoping for a new Nigeria. We must learn to FAITH the new Nigeria. What we should be seeing is a picture of Sanctity and stability, one that portrays excellence and delivers peace and development to the hands of her people.
As a New Nigerian, you must channel the course of your effort towards change, positive change I mean. Your hands are not tied; you can take action. Instead of sitting and hoping that God will stop cybercrime, child trafficking, youth insecurity, corruption and other social vices; you must volunteer to be the tool in God's hand to rescue this Nation from doom. If you as a young man or woman will be concerned about giving Nigeria a picture that portrays goodness, our brand will be a lot better.
You should be concerned. Not only should you be concerned for yourselves, you should be concerned for the victims of the evil some bad eggs in the name of leadership have caused us. You must be concerned about the thousands of lives wasting daily on our 'pot-hole decorated highways'. Yes, you should be concerned about thousands of youths whose futures are in shambles, roaming our streets as job seekers and those who in Cyber points commit grievous crimes over the internet. "Why" is the question that rings in the heart of already affected Nigerians like us, but the answer isn't far fetched? The reason why destinies are becoming destitute in our country is because our systems are failing and yet our approach towards saving the nation from crumbling is somewhat faulty. Going ahead with this makes me feel like I'm joining the league of those who complain.
This is my counsel to you, New Nigerian: keep up the 'good' work (that's if you are doing one). Well, if you are still idle, expecting some sort of change to come from somewhere; it may come, but not in your direction. Decide today to join the train of change, picture the Nigeria of your dream. Work towards that future by carving a niche of determination for excellence around yourself. Never take a no for an answer when it comes to positive impact. I am sure that the synergy of our little efforts will one day yield a forceful impact that will systematically cause our Nation to metamorphose into what I call 'A Nation Well Kept'. And whether we live in that Nigeria, or it comes while we are gone; it will be said of us that 'with dignity and dogged determination they built us a Nation". Don't fail that generation, start planting your efforts today.

Yours Faithfully,

How Youths can Contribute to Rebranding Nigeria

IN THE PAST
Our nation Nigeria having a total population of about 150 million with close to 40 million youths has experienced diverse problems ranging from poverty, human insecurity, environmental crises, governmental torments to real economic instability. According to the world webometric ratings, Nigeria was discovered one of the poorest countries in the world.
The place of youth, a pivotal and prerequisital position has been well underestimated, (I observe) and even the youth themselves have an identity problem to recognise where to intervene. Being oblivious of their inherent unique potential, many Nigerian youths take the spectator stand in the walk of progress.
NOW
There is a change in the air, many thanks to such initiatives as YAIN (Youth Activist Initiative Nigeria), ISSPIN, taking IT global, and many others who have taking the responsibility of waking up the slumbering Nigerian youths.
The internet and other knowledge source have taking us a long way by exposing us to the wonders of the outside world. Self branding consultants, personal effectiveness trainers and motivational speakers are on the increase in our nation today, quite unfortunate, we have very few nation branding coaches and change apostles who will help remove all forms of egocentricm and selfishness that has eating up the glory of our nation all these years.
THE FUTURE
As an addicted believer in the awesome potential of the African youth, I still see a bright light at the end of this long tunnel of struggle. The aged, the fathers, are fading away, they have little strength and time to bring the change we await, the future is lying on the decisions of Nigerian youths to cause a revolution, effect their noble ideas and channel their potential towards the right course. The land is green and so is the future but the condition is a decision to take up responsibility of transparent leadership held on sound platform of serenity and absolute accountability.

THE BRAND IN VIEW
A brand is defined from a bi-observant angle, that is the brand maker and the brand purchaser. Nigeria has a vast abundance of both renewable and non-renewable, human, natural, mineral, financial resources and so on. We see a picture of a solid content; a correct perspective will see a highly blessed nation, but one poor in reputation in the committee of nations. The brand of any product represents its image, its impeccable and peculiar characteristics which could depend on its past records and appearances. The beginning of branding any product is having the output brand in view. Every Nigerian youth must start by seeing the Nigeria We all desire, one which can be described with nothing more than a Nation well kept, free of economic struggles, a Nation where things work, one where power is not a problem, one whose currency is valuable in the global market; a nation whose entirely is represented by truth, integrity, whose people’s solidarity and unity in exposed in their decision, on e whose electoral process is totally clean and peaceful, one which is relevant in the global scheme of things.

YOUTH ARISE
I have always believed that those who can perform immensely in core of change and development of any nation are the youths of such a nation. Where it starts from is the readiness to learn new things, and the understanding of the potential that lies within. Presently there is a problem of role conflict; everyone seems confused or rather ignorant of where they should come in. Meanwhile solving the problem of role conflict can only be achieved by discovery of purpose, every youth has a place, but there is a need to look within. Adequate knowledge of what you are made of will convince any sane man to take necessary actions to effect change and this presents a good picture of Nigeria to the outside world.
SEVEN PRACTICAL APPROACHES TO RE-BRANDING NIGERIA
Nigeria will experience a renaissance if we can operate on these seven practical approaches to re-branding:
(1) HARNESSING THE KNOWLEDGE OF SOCIETAL STRUCTURE TO FOSTER NATIONAL BRANDING:

A proper understanding of societal structure will help youths to set priorities right. The society is built on the bedrock of discipline, established on the platform of dedication and furthered by dogged determination. Well positioned youths can help propagate the knowledge of societal values, standards, morals and practices that is capable of changing the orientation of the entire Nigerian populace. This will go a long way in affecting/influencing all sectors, including the governance terrain. We can be sure of a better branding if we have youths who won’t take no for an answer, who will reject the impossible and embrace the truth which is capable of making free.
(2) EMBRACING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT THROUGH SOPHISTICATED ENTERPRISE CULTIVATION:
Motivated youths can contribute to rebranding Nigeria both locally and globally by acting in such ways as enterprise cultivation to embrace sustainable development that will make us relevant in the world. Establishment of small & large scale businesses, erection of firms or general enterprise development will present an image of seriousness, and industriousness to the outside world, hence giving us a better standing in the committee of Nations. Records have it that the bulk of China’s enterprise experts are youths. Our nation’s brand will be solid only if these empowered youths will forsake frivolities and take the bull of enterprise cultivation by the horn.
(3) DEVELOPING PERSONAL IDEAS INNOVATIONS:
Due to the vast human resource capacity of Nigerian youths, several potent personal ideas and innovations exist in their minds without really coming to manifestation. Such things as NGO establishment, problem solving initiatives and change campaigns have helped countries like America. A good example is the development of a popular social network called Facebook done by a 24 year old ‘Mark’ and a couple of friends in Harvard; today facebook not only has recognition all over the world, but has also added billions of dollars to the cash flow quadrant in the U.S. Other examples of young problem solvers who later brought their national economies to succour are, Bill. Gates, Robert Kiyosaki to mention a few.
(4) LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION
Allowing youths to partcipate both, locally and international will give expression to the unique creativity, idea and positive moral values. Giving potentially active youths ambassodorial platforms to participate in global hearings, attend international conferences and present the indefatiguable Nigerian youths in international compettions; a practical example is the Zain African Challenge, young Nigerians from the Federal university of Akure took the bull by the horn won few awards and showed other African nations that igeria is still a Nation to recon with both in academics and in Character.
(5) NATIONAL RENAISSANCE
National rebirth and revival can be fronteered and properly propagated by youths, young minds who are fuilled with passion for change. Organising of youths conferences achieved by youthd for youths will inspire the younger generation and prepare them for the challenges of the future. This will go a long way in combating anxiety, low self esteem, future insecurity and the fear of the unknown, hence helping us to build bold, confident and competent future leaders by ourselves for ourselves. When Nigeria experiences this rebirth, the whole world can be sure that Nigeria will be the most important brand, a global comodity every inhabitant of the planet desires to meet.
(6) ACTIVE RESEARCH AND CORRESPONDING IMPLEMENTATION
Youths can work in the core of active research which is the fuel of develoment; fully maximisaing the potentials of youths in research and implementation is something our government must facilitate. I look forward to a time, where researches in medicine, infotech, commerce, economics, oil and gas, agriculture and so on will encounter breakthroughs capable of liberating our world from the bondage of endemics and poverty. The after effect of this is that our Nation will forever be remembered for that and our relevance in global ratings will be obvious.
(7) CONFLICT RESOLUTION
This is another vital aspect of re bbranding that Nigerian youths can participate in. In places such as the Niger-Delta where crises are prevalent, youths are the causal agents of this strive and conflict. This therefore implies that if youths can contribute immensly to conflict resolution (since yoths inspire youths) this whole lot of strife that has painted Nigeria as an instable country will come to an end. Putting to work Brilliant youths in conflict resolution will sace us of bad reputation we give to foreigners whose families were kidnapped in these regions.
FINAL WORDS
I am occupied with a terrific optimism that our youths have a germane role to play in re-branding Nigeria and presenting her as a awesome comodity the whole world will accept. I strongly believe in the GEMSTONE vision 2025 (of which I am an ambassador) a vision which states that ‘by December 31st 2025, Nigeria will be the most desirous nation to live in’, sounds like we are far from it; but the truth remains that if will all will take responsibilties, understand our roles and critically emancipate in the right direction. Our nation will get there, and the responsibility is the youths’.

An Icon of the Times (Gbenga Sesan)

This is a special Quatrain I am dedicating to Gbenga Sesan on the book presentation. Pls. read it.
An Icon of the times ('Gbenga Sesan)
As I plan to start,
my pen made a loud fart
in my heart, still i wonder
on this, still I ponder.

My words won't fail
the truth on the head I must nail
I will shout aloud,
clear, like the white cloud

The hurdles of time,
troubles like chyme
challenges though large
your heart you did enlarge.

Like a bullet leaves the nozzle
you shot out through the puzzle
you never focused on the gain
with joy you took the pain.

Over coasts of nations,
over poles of stations;
your impacts around, we see
even in lands, over the sea.

The darkness of your skin,
the chances, though so thin
were never so capable
of making you stumble.

You held the fort
Ignorance, you fought
we see you shinning today
working to get there, someday

Gbenga...your name gives hope
that despite Nigeria,we'll cope
many, young and old are inspired by your words
that's why you can write 'in my own words'

Grace gave you global opening
hardwork brought global reckoning
teaching us to leave impacts,
and relating responsibly in fact.

'Cos you have set the pace
In the world, you gave us a face
you are not just an Icon of our times
you are an Icon of the times

Another step into purpose

I added another good feather to my cap some weeks ago when i got two web consulting offer from I.T. firms within Nigeria. I've always had passion for change, impetus towards value and interest in sustainable development. i settled for the offer of a web solution firm Nerilus Enterprises (www.nerilusenterprises.com). Well you may want to know what the pay is like. Itsn't anything small anyway, but come to think of it, I didn't hook up with Nerilus for the money, it's the experience, exposure and joy of working even while in school. It invariable means that i won't have less than 3 years working experience when i'm out of school. I think it's another step into purpose, what's your opinion?

I've always had passion for change, impetus towards value and interest in sustainable development

Something I came across, and I think is True

The Harmful Effects of Pornography
Peter and Paul Ministries

“But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully
has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”(Matt 5:28)
1) All Pornography Desensitizes the Viewer:
The primary function of porn is to interfere with interpersonal relationships and personal moral judgment. Twenty Six separate studies have shown conclusively that the viewing of pornography definitely desensitizes people to extremely unusual, bizarre, and deviant behavior.

2) Pornography is Addictive:
Pornography is as addictive as drugs or alcohol. Numerous studies have shown that those who use porn over time need harder and harder material in order to maintain their previous level of arousal.

3) Pornography Degrades Marriages:
Pornography usually shows attractive women performing almost any type of act. This causes conflict in marriages in two ways. First, porn induced fantasies cause husbands to become dissatisfied with their wives physical imperfections. The result is many women begin to feel insecure and inadequate about their bodies. Second, husbands addicted to porn begin to expect their wives to perform perverted acts they witnessed in X- rated material. Most wives, of course, become disgusted and repelled by their husband's increasingly degenerate fantasies and behavior. Many times husbands turn to prostitutes or other women in order to satisfy their lustful and perverted desires.

4) Pornography and Crime:
Those naive individuals who cling to the quaint and outmoded belief that pornography is victimless should wake up and look at the facts. More than 65 independent studies have shown that dangerous offenders (child molesters, murders, and rapists) are not only more likely to commit their crimes if they use pornography, but they are likely to precede their violent acts with the extended use of pornography.

FACTS FROM THE FBI:
1) Pornography is a 12 billion dollar industry in the United States and is the third largest revenue producer for Organized Crime.

2) 86% of convicted rapists admit to regular use of porn and 75% of rapists admit to simulating acts they viewed in porn.

3) 82% of child molesters admit to imitating the sexual behavior they have seen in pornographic material.

4) 81% of recent mass murderers admit to using pornography extensively.

5) The crime rate increases 2 - 7 times where ever pornography is sold

Let's Reduce Child mortality-MDG goal IV

The initiative of the United Nations on the Millennium development goals is highly commended and has been pertinent in the achievement of world peace and development, Moreover the provision of opportunities for a better life for people in the world is an inevitable tool in achieving peace, equity and development in all member nations. One of the most striking and important of this eight millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is the ‘Eradication of Child Mortality’.

World situation as it relates to Child/ Infant mortality is really pathetic and of course very rampant in the developing and underdeveloped countries. The death of millions of children every year all over the world is highly painful and definitely unacceptable. The United Nations’ target as revealed in the millennium development Goals is to reduce the situation by two third between 1990 and 2015. This is 2009 and yet all that has been done has been to little avail. It is then obvious that something significant has to be done to achieve this goal - some sort of synergy between the youths and the government that will bring about a positive head way.

Reports from the World Health Organization reveal that the leading causes of these deaths include malaria, Pneumonia, diarrhea and measles. The government has played a wonderful part in leading campaigns on Vaccination, availability of maternal health care delivery facilities and a host of others. Meanwhile, it is obvious that these solutions are not completely capable of bringing a halt to child mortality. One of the short comings of this health schemes put together by the government is the inability to access very remote areas where many of the diseases are raging and vulnerabilities are high. It will then be wise enough to submit that Youths should be given an opportunity to contribute immensely to this course.

The roles of the Youths in reducing Child mortality can range from personally creating awareness in their surroundings of this great plague, to actively participating in vaccination and prevention of infant diseases.

To elaborate further, it is recommended that if youths will take the responsibility of ensuring environmental sanity (cleanliness) by being actively involved in campaigns against these children diseases, the work will reduce immensely. To ensure that the messages get to the target populace (the rural areas), such campaigns could be staged on market days or during special festivals.

Further more, Youths can take up the responsibility of setting up Non-governmental organizations within their schools or communities where health education would be given to illiterate mothers on how to care for their wards. These NGOs can also see to the donating of materials such as mosquito nets to parents, Soaps, Drugs and even cardigans to prevent Cold.

More so, Considering a Country like Nigeria, the use of Youth Corps during their service year for village/rural health education and infant vaccination can be employed. This will go a long way in ensuring that the efforts of the government to reach everyone is achieved, as well as reduce the cost of employing health workers to conduct such exercise. One other approach related to this is disabusing the mind of illiterate mothers that child mortality is normal and cannot be avoided. Mythical opinions such as ‘Abiku’ (Yoruba: born to die), a common phenomenon in the Yoruba ethnic group of Nigeria can be corrected by the youth Corp as they go about their daily routine.

With motives that are beyond gain and money making youths can also venture into blood donation, they should in fact be enlightened and made to understand that blood donation does not kill – instead it gives life to the recipient. Fundamentally, child Mortality reduction should be attended to with utmost tenacity. The importance of quickly harnessing the means of reducing this plague cannot be gainsaid; necessary actions must be taken on these recommendations to stop this pathetic situation.

It is obvious that unity in applying these recommendations is what can assure us of effectiveness and success; the message of unity should continually ring in the hearts of all. The passion to keep alive the leaders of tomorrow should drive us to take necessary action. It therefore lies in the hands of all to combat the scourge of child mortality before it steals away our joy (the children) before our very eyes.
